Can Abdullah Mason Carry the Torch for the Lightweight Division?

Abdullah Mason saved the night in Norfolk, Virginia, this past weekend by stopping Nakathila in the 5th round. Although he's only 21, he has matured beyond his years.

As a fighter, he possesses all the skills, but he's still somewhat inexperienced. Meaning he doesn't have enough experience yet to throw him to the wolves. However, the fans at the Scope Arena loved Abdullah.

The way he carries himself as a man is the type of character you look for in a fighter. Not only is he good inside the ring, but he's good outside of the ring. The Mason family, along with their manager, James Prince, have done an excellent job thus far building Abdullah.

Now it's time to see if he's ready to become a world champion. Some fighters, when taking that next step to stardom, have breakout fights that put them on the map for the world to see.

For Terence Crawford, it was the Ricky Burns fight. For Errol Spence, it was the Kell Brook fight. For Sugar Ray Leonard, it was the Wilfred Benitez fight. For James Toney, it was the Michael Nunn fight.

I have countless examples I can give. For Abdullah Mason, his breakout fight would be against Sam Noakes from the UK. If Abdullah Mason can beat a dangerous fighter such as Sam Noakes for the Vacant WBO title, that would take him over the top.

With young fighters like Abdullah Mason, Raymond Muratalla, Curmel Molton, Andy Cruz, and Shakur Stevenson, the lightweight Division is looking good.

Do you believe Abdullah Mason has what it takes to carry the Torch for American Boxing? Let's talk about it.
