1 Sam 10:1
Then Samuel took the flask of oil, poured it on his head, kissed him and said, "Has not the LORD anointed you a ruler over His inheritance?

Saul has been anointed as king of Israel. Anointing signifies divine consecration to office. Priests and kings are anointed into office. This should show us the meaning of other passages in the Brit Hadasha.

2 Cor. 1:21 Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and anointed us is God, 22who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge.

1 John 2:20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know.

1 John 2:27 And as for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.

This anointing means that we have been made a kingdom and priests and we are to reign with Messiah Yeshua.

Rev. 1:6 and He has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father; to Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Rev 5:10 ““And Thou hast made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God; and they will reign upon the earth.”

Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years.

This was Elohim's plan for His people all along.

Ex. 19:5-6 ‘Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine; 6and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Israel.”
