The weather was finally cooling down and it felt like a good weekend to go camping. My wife wanted to come so she picked our campsite for the weekend.

We wanted to go to Nikko area so I showed her a few campgrounds and left her to pick the one she wanted. She picked New Kirifuri Camping Village due to it having a restaurant and being close to Kirifuri Plateau. The sign at the campground calls it New Kirifuri Camping Village but online it is often called New Kirifuri Camping Ground

I have been to Kirifuri Plateau twice before but my wife had never been. She had seen some photos I took on my trip along with videos on social media and wanted to visit. I was surprised she picked New Kirifuri Campground with how remote it is.

We set off for Nikko on a rainy Saturday morning. First, we took a bus to Utsunomiya. Then a train to Nikko. At last, we took a bus from Nikko Station to Kirifuri Plateau. Jen set off to climb the 1446 steps as Lily and I left our bags behind. Lily wanted to climb too so we set off to walk up some of the steps of the Sky Corridor. We walked up to the lower observation deck before hiking back down to go to the campground.

At the campground, disaster struck for Jen. The restaurant was closed for the holiday weekend. Disgruntled and looking like she wanted to go home we walked from reception past the cabins to the tent camping ground.

Despite it being a holiday weekend the campground was surprisingly empty. We set up camp and I got to cooking the camping food I brought. My wife refused to eat it. Meanwhile, my daughter had a great time running around and playing with the other families. Almost everyone camping that night was a family with kids.

After a relaxing night camping, we packed up and walked back to the bus stop. I had a great trip. My daughter had a fun time. My wife says it was ok.
