"You should meditate on the arising and fading of all things, like a mirage or the reflection of the moon and water."
-Patril Rinpoche, in the words of my perfect teacher

Lama Dawa Zangpo’s Commentary:
Patril Rinpoche, a great Tibetan master from the past century, says here that the way to meditate is to see that all things are arising and falling away. They don't stay in any kind of permanent sense, and we can start to look at the things of our life and the things and phenomena that are coming and going like a mirage or, as he says, use the analogy of the moon reflected in water. These are things that appear to us, but they don't actually exist in a solid sense and. For a meditator on the Buddhist path, we are starting to learn how to look at our thoughts in a new way, a way that is more relaxed and clear and seeing that things are in a state of change and are not as solid and real as we think at first glance. Meditation with a calm and clear mind allows us to start to look at phenomena in this fresh kind of way.
