What is the Dunamis of the Holy Spirit?

Jesus tells us in Acts 1:8,
"you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you"

What is that "power"? The Greek word for that "power" is "dunamis" which means power, strength, ability, might and miracle.

Paul uses this same Greek word in Ephesians 3:16 where he wrote: "I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with POWER through his Spirit in your inner being"

As God's children, we have the Holy Spirit "in our inner being", just as Jesus taught in John 14:17, "for he lives with you and will be in you."

Since the Holy Spirit dwells within in us, then the “power, strength, might, ability and miracle” of the Holy Spirit is within us too!

God gives each of us the whole measure of the Holy Spirit, not just a portion. It doesn't matter where we are in our walk with God, we all have the same measure, the same equipping, the same support and the same enabling power of the Holy Spirit.

We read in 2 Peter 1:3, "His divine power (or dunamis) has given us everything we need for a godly life..."

The Spirit enables us to do what we couldn't do on our own. The Spirit enables us to be transformed. The Spirit enables us to live out God's purposes for us. The Spirit enables us to do what would be impossible without God's power working within us.

In fact, this "dunamis" word for Spirit's power comes from the Greek word, dýnamai (doo-na-ma-ee) meaning "I can".

The Holy Spirit gives us the power of "I can" just as we read in Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (through the power of the Holy Spirit)".

The dunamis power of the Holy Spirit is more powerful than we can imagine. In fact, the word dynamite comes from the same Greek word origin. We have the dynamite power of God working in us through the Holy Spirit!

Apostle Paul teaches us in Ephesians 3:20 that God is "able to do immeasurably MORE than all we ask or imagine, according to HIS POWER that is AT WORK within us".

It is the "dunamis" power of the Spirit at work within us that gives us the "I can" ability. With the dunamis of the Spirit, we are empowered to be dynamite witnesses for Christ as we are being transformed into his likeness. Just as he said in Acts 1:8,

"You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
