Baseline

Eventually everything reverts to the baseline.
All attempts to escape destiny — one’s place — are abandoned, and the striving ends.
What remains is what has always been here.

Everyone eventually surrenders to their own place.
Dust settles.
Mud settles.

It’s like gravity—just a law.
Things return to their places,
and our attention returns to the Real.
It has always been here; it never left.

But our attention wandered elsewhere,
distracted by images and dreams.
There was an illusion that the Real wasn't here—but it was.

When we’re ready,
we simply look at what is
and… it is here!

Ungraspable,
impossible to imagine or understand—
and yet Real,
and yet here.

So why spend years of our lives—perhaps even waste our lives—pursuing something that makes no sense in retrospect?
This is the challenge;
at the time, it seems reasonable, makes sense and fits the vision.
But after many years, when the vision, the dreams and the imaginary have dissolved, the question remains:
Why?
Why did I do that?
Why did you do that?
Why did we, as a species, do that?
Why?

Such is our defence—a defence against the unbearable: meeting the Real.
