Never Wake a Man Before Dawn

(Verse 1)
Let me tell you 'bout a yawn so wide,
Happened 'round here 'fore the day could rise.
Cathy shook me, said, “Get up—fast!”
Lightning hit the barn with a thunderclap.
(Verse 2)
I groaned, “Lord, woman, let me be—
It’s a crime to yank a man from dreamin’ deep!”
Said, “The barn’ll hold, just let it ride,”
But she hauled me up and shoved me outside.
(Pre-Chorus)
Then I saw it—man, that storm rolled down,
Howlin’ through the hills, shakin' the ground.
Thunder cracked, trees bent low,
Rain hit hard like a punch from Joe.
(Chorus)
She threw me a coat, slapped on my hat,
I grabbed my boots and ran like that—
In nothin’ but boxers and heart full of pride,
Till a flash of fire lit up the sky.
And right then, I knew I’d been wrong—
Never wake a man before dawn.
(Verse 3)
She fears the thunder deep in her bones,
So I laid there steamin’ ‘til the storm had blown.
Sun came up, barn still stood—
But if I could sleep, you know I would.
(Outro)
So hear my words, don't do her wrong—
But never wake a man 'fore the rooster's song.
Sky's turned clear, barn's just fine,
But next time, darlin'—let me lie.
