A Private Members’ Bill has just been gazetted
proposing a last-minute amendment to the Political Parties Act ahead of the 2025 elections.

⚠ Here’s why you should care:

✅ Our current law bans foreign donations to political parties.

✅ The amendment creates a loophole for foreign or local money under the label of “capacity building” or training

✅ It bypasses the formal process:

The Electoral Commission has the authority to recommend such changes, but this was neither part of their public consultations nor recommendations.

Will the National Assembly, using its majority, rush this law through — without broad debate, without consensus?

This is not just about one amendment.

It’s about interference in our institutions —

weakening the very safeguards meant to protect our democracy

and creating backdoors for foreign influence in our politics.

💬 We must demand process. We must demand accountability. We must defend the independence of our institutions.

👉 Watch the breakdown on The Middle Ground Seychelles. We stand where institutions should stand: with the people.
