Transvestigation 1/2: Is Imane Khelif a man?

On August 1, 2024, Imane Khelif and Angela Carini fought for the Olympic gold medal. After receiving a jab Carini fell to her knees crying, saying she’d “never been punched like that.” Yet, Carini—a police officer and the daughter of police officers—KO’d many women and boasted she’d been raised as a “warrior” prior to the match. In response to all the insults against his daughter, Khelif’s father said all the talking would be done in the ring. Carini refused to shake hands with Khelif after the match and was comforted instead by the embrace of PM Giorgia Meloni. The International Boxing Association offered her a consolation prize of $100,000. Khelif, for her part, was named UNICEF ambassador and “Champion of Children’s Rights” for teaching children fitness and self-defence and to pursue their dreams and overcome obstacles. One thing is certain, at any rate. Had the same events occurred between male boxers, Khelif would be considered a boxing legend rather than criticized for lacking the attributes of a ballerina.
