Mayor Kevin Ashe gave his usual polished recap of the May 26 Council meeting, but left out the most important parts. In this video, I reveal what really happened: the vote to block 19 letters opposing Strong Mayor powers, the refusal to second my motion calling for those powers to be rescinded, and yet another tax increase of 2.8% for the next 10 years in which I stood alone against. **CORRECTION**
The $250,000 motion to hire consultants and scale down Pickering’s $241 million Rec Complex to $200 million was defeated. Council said no. So instead, we chose to barrel ahead with this 241 Million Dollar unaffordable mega-project, while the city stares down a $32.8 million budget shortfall.
Let me be clear: I’ve opposed this vanity project from the beginning. We can’t afford it.
