Hansley Ajodha Post:
Good morning my friends.
I've been observing the recent situation developing between us and Venezuela, and I decided to break my silence this morning on something I always declined to comment on publicly, and that is, my experiences as a broadcast jounalist on Radio 610 and Radio 100FM during the 1990 Insurrection, and being the last person to carry the report of the surrender of the insurrectionists at Red house: I tie this in with the statements of Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar.
I speak from a neutral point of view, because I have friends and acquaitances on all sides of the political divide, but I give praise where praise is due.
While some feel Mrs Bissessar's statements are incendiary and inciteful, I personally think it was a sensible thing to do, because she basically sounded an alarm, she didn't threaten anybody, she basically cautioned with knowledge of what could be a conspiracy to confuse the geo-politics, and possibly...and I emphasise possibly, to de-stabilise us as a country....I SAW THIS BEFORE.
To the experts who condemn the statements, were you around between 1988 and 1990 when Government and many of us were aware something was brewing? That signs were pointing in a specific direction? These signs and warnings were ignored and taken lightly by the then government, and THAT IS A FACT.
In fact just months before that fateful day in 1990, I was doing a radio magazine program called "Checkpoint" dissecting a book called "Skeletons of the System", it looked at different political systems and I got into a discussion following the show about the perceived vulnerability that Trinidad and Tobago was heading for.
My friends, Trinidad and Tobago was a different country following 1990, it changed forever, and not for the better. "IT WAS THE DAWN OF THE BAD-MAN"....I knew it when I stood on Independence Square looking at smoke fill the air of Port of Spain, and a building on fire, while waiting for my fiance to pick me up, after I finished on radio following my reporting of the surrender and incarceration of the insurrectionists.
Had the Government paid attention, and had taken seriously, the known threats and developments, Port of Spain, our capital, would not have been in ruin. Prime Minister Bissessar was sensible to call "a spade a spade", she didn't threaten anybody, she sent a caution.
No, we can't fight Venezuela, everyone knows that, including Venezuela.
Do I think they want to "invade", I would say no, it would not be a smart thing to do anyhow..... and why even bother? It won't succeed given the geo-politics and big Uncle Sam just up the road.
Venezuela and Trinidad have been one for hundreds of years, her cultural influence is a part of our very soul, but while we have friends, we also have an identity.
As I stood on the roof top balcony of Radio 610 on Abercromby Street, with GEB police officer Pitt, his rifle cocked and aimed, and my carrying a live report looking down the street as the surrendered insurrectionists entered the police bus to be carried away to incarceration, little did Officer Pitt and I know, we, as a country, would soon forget.
Don't be angry with Mrs Bissessar, she sounded a warning....Prime Minister ANR Robinson did when he said "Attack With Full Force!" but by then it was too late for him, his government and Trinidad and Tobago....let's not do to that again.
Have a beautiful day my friends, and attack life....with full force.

My Response:
Thanks for posting this, because we're living in an era when journalists in T&T are simply bias propaganda mouthpieces of the PNM. I have friends who belong to various political parties as well, but sadly the fact is that PNM embraces the 1% Caste System style of governance and even Autocracy, just like Venezuela's illegitimate president Maduro. Maduro may not be bold enough to officially invade T&T, in order to annex our territory, the way he's doing in the Essequibo Guyana, but he was definitely attempting to intimidate our prime minister and was "testing the waters" as we would say. It's very possible that the Venezuelan president may attempt to send military officers to "arrest" so-called terrorists in T&T, which is what our prime minister rightfully rejected and warned against. Her statement was a declaration of our sovereignty and the RIGHT to defend our territory from any form of invasion. I guess critics, like those in the media and PNM, wanted prime minister Kamla, to humble herself and submit to the mighty and powerful Nicholas Maduro. That so-called diplomatic approach is a sign of weakness and incapability to govern an independent nation.
