THE CHIMP's STORY
We bought sufficient food to feed about 30 chimpanzees that day and accompanied the excellent guide and caregivers, to three islands on the Marshal River.
These islands are home to the chimpanzees that were previously kept at the Bio-medical research center operated by the New York Blood Bank.
The chimps after a huge outcry were released onto these islands, still taken care of on the islands by caregivers because there is no food to scavenge on the island.
The boat journey to the islands was quite an adventure, witnessing the wonderful interaction between the chimps and their caregivers, as well as the rangers who protect them from poachers, was truly heartwarming.
This video serves as a testament to how adaptable our closest relatives, the chimpanzees are, considering they share about 98% of their genes with humans. It's incredible to see the resilience and intelligence of these amazing creatures.
It was an amazing experience to have the opportunity to make a little difference with the chimpanzees on the islands.
The caregivers had a wonderful bond with the chimps, they were their life line providing food on a regular basis and keeping an eye to see if they were safe and healthy.
It was a relief to see them living freely, despite the challenges of living on small islands.
