The Battle of the Somme was one of the deadliest battles in human history. It was fought during WW1 to relieve the pressure on their French allies who were trapped in the meat grinder known as the Battle of Verdun. This is the story of the sailors from the Royal Navy who fought to capture Beaucourt Hamel during the Battle of the Somme, and how their commanding officer won the Victoria Cross.
