Meteora Monasteries (Μετέωρα - "floating in the air").
❗Meteora is the name of an organized monastic community that emerged in the 10th century, when the first hermits climbed these rocky and inaccessible cliff tops, cut off from the world.
The construction of monasteries of the current type began in the 14th century, a total of 24 were built, and today only 6 remain in operation.
The monasteries are located on cliffs made of a mixture of sandstone and clastic rock, reaching a height of 600 meters.
