Carney asked if he believes Modi was involved in murder of BC Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar

Some controversy has followed upon Canada’s decision to invite Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the G7 leaders’ summit in Alberta this month - and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney was pressed to answer on Friday whether he believes Modi was involved in the assassination of B.C. Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in 2023.

“First off, there is a legal process that is literally underway and quite advanced in Canada and it’s never appropriate to make comments,” Carney said.

Relations between Canada and India have been tense amid mounting foreign interference concerns and continued investigations into Nijjar’s killing – which former prime minister Justin Trudeau publicly said was the work of “agents of the Indian government.”
