The Puzzling Disappearance of Polly Melton

It’s pretty easy to get lost in the woods (considerably more so than many people might think); paths will sometimes become overgrown, weather conditions may obscure landmarks, and false trails often lead people astray. Even well trod and marked routes like the Appalachian Trail can become confusing in less traveled parts, and in some cases people simply leave thinking they can carve a better path by themselves. The vast majority of these individuals are eventually found, though not necessarily alive; but even when someone is found deceased, their location and the state of the remains can typically tell us what happened. Every once in a while, however, someone just vanishes into thin air, such as seven year old Dennis Martin or sixteen year old Trenny Gibson, both of whom disappeared in the Smokies without leaving a single clue as to where they’d gone. It might seem like something to do with youth, but in the case of Thelma Pauline Melton, that simply can’t be the case. Welcome back to The Lore Lodge...
