Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said U.S. President Donald Trump had a verbal agreement with him to keep the steel and aluminum tariffs at 25 per cent and by increasing the tariff to 50 per cent on Wednesday, Trump had broken the agreement.

In response to a question about bringing back the electricity surcharge, Ford said, "everything's on the table," adding that he wants to ensure that the federal government slaps a reciprocal 50 per cent tariff on steel coming to Canada from the U.S.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday followed through on his announced plan to double tariffs on foreign steel and aluminum imports to 50 per cent, signing an executive order that sets a Wednesday start date for the massive increase.
