Close the Gap Research is a group dedicated to creating evidence-based programs and services that make a lasting impact on the lives of disadvantaged Aboriginal Australians. Dr. Johns discusses the work of Close the Gap Research and the findings that they have made.

Dr. Johns makes the argument that the Aboriginal industry that has prospered through Government intervention has held Aboriginal Australians back in addressing their disadvantage. Dr. Johns focuses on the need for a change in the culture of Aboriginal people, transitioning from a mentality of victimhood, to one of aspiration that values education, employment and hard work.
