900 Miles - Mountain Banjo

900 Miles is a traditional American folk song. It`s quite possibly my favorite train song ever, along with the great Hank Williams classic, The Old Log Train and Glen Millers, Chattanooga Choo Choo. What`s your favorite train song? That might be a good poll question for the community section eh. I play it on a mountain banjo, index lead upstroke.

900 Miles - Lyrics
Banjo in standard tuning low octave

I’m a walking down the track, I’ve got tears in my eyes,
I’m tryin’ to read a letter from my home;
If that train runs me right, I’ll be home tomorrow night,
‘Cause I’m nine hundred miles from my home.
And I hate to hear that lonesome whistle blow,
That long lonesome train whistlin’ down.

Well this train I ride on, Is a hundred coaches long,
You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles;
And if this train runs me right, I’ll be home tomorrow night,
‘Cause I’m nine hundred miles from my home.
And I hate to hear that lonesome whistle blow,

I will pawn you my wagon, I will pawn you my team,
I will pawn you my golden watch and my chain;
And if this train runs me right, I’ll see my woman tomorrow night,
‘Cause I’m nine hundred miles from my home.
And I hate to hear that lonesome whistle blow.
