MARANATHA / Anathema - O Lord, come! Unfolding the context behind these words for Jesus' glory

Context matters - even for well intended sacred cows.

1 Corinthians 16 is on deck with more scripture to back it up.

In this case, one of the most popular terms in all of Christianity - "Maranatha" is one of the most beautiful things to think of, yet most people say it in hopes Jesus will come faster...

But the Bible says "woe to those who desire the day of the Lord", which is when Christ returns as the Sword of the Lord to judge the kings and nationsj.

Maranatha in context of 1 Corinthians 16 is about God gathering the saints in small home churches, and the statement at the end couldn't be more bleak for non-believers.

The context is showing us that Maranatha is Jesus returning first through His people gathering the saints in small groups.

As if that wasn't wild enough, Paul gives us the word Anathema - which is a warning of an oath-curse of damnation that's spoken in the context of Christ's return - which means, if you want Jesus to come - the damnation of non-believers will be sealed...so until ALL your people have crossed the finish line of faith and God is not working to save others, we STRONGLY urge brothers and sisters in Christ to use the word/phrase MARANATHA in context...

That is, say it as a verbal encouragement for the body of Christ to gather and strengthen one another in faith concurrently while the damnation of non-believers is on display.

The Bible is far more visceral than many of us have been taught, and it's time to change that.
