Hello. My name is Carolina Kind.
I am 47 years old, I am a widow,
and I live in Uganda, in the heart of Africa.
I am the mother of two small children.

I am writing this message
with a broken heart.
My husband passed away from AIDS,
and since then I have faced everything alone.
I have no close family
who can help me.

My strength is
disappearing,
and the pain I carry every day
has been unbearable.
I have AIDS, given to me by my late husband,
and no one will give me work or help.

My children are hungry.
We have spent nights with nothing to eat.
I have done everything I can
— washing clothes, asking for help,
looking for any job —
but nothing has been enough.

Today, I feel I have reached
my limit.
I am desperate.
I can no longer bear
to see my children suffering,
crying from hunger,
with nothing to offer them.
It is destroying me inside.

Please, help us.
Even if it is just 1 dollar here in Uganda,
it can mean bread, rice,
soap… it could be one more day of life.
