Synopsis – The Parshah of Kedoshim begins with the statement: "You shall be holy, for I, the Lord your God, am holy"; this is followed by dozens of mitzvot (Divine commandments) through which the Jew sanctifies him or herself and relates to the holiness of God.
These include: the prohibition against idolatry, the mitzvah of charity, the principle of equality before the law, Shabbat, sexual morality, honesty in business, honor and awe of one's parents, the sacredness of life.
Also in Kedoshim is the dictum which the great sage Rabbi Akiva called a cardinal principle of Torah and of which Hillel said of that Messiah Yeshua said, "This is the entire Torah, the rest is commentary" -- Love your fellow as yourself.
Theme & Message – The focus of this lesson is that holiness is a state of being that affects every aspect of life. The Lord desires for us to be holy not to be simply “bossy”, but so that we may dwell with him. Although memorizing all of the laws can be somewhat helpful, that is not the purpose for these passages of scripture. The Lord intended to be certain that man fully understood the level of perfection and exactness that exists in Heaven. He desires that we understand the great chasm between man and God that is created by sin. The word Kadosh “Holy” can be found 522 times in the Scriptures we might want to consider how important Holiness is to Adonai. We who are followers of Messiah Yeshua base our whole lives on one Scripture Yochanan/John 3:16 and this is an awesome starting place. We must consider how important to Adonai is Kadosh if it is found 522 times.
