Los Angeles County Sheriff's Detective Stilwell is effectively exiled to a low key policing post policing Catalina Island after department politics took him off the homicide desk on the mainland.
Day to day work is generally , tourist related , drunk and disorderly , petty theft etc. Until one day a body , wrapped in plastic and weighed down by an anchor is discovered in the harbour.
Having to hand a murder investigation to former colleagues on the mainland doesn't sit well with Stilwell who fears that their investigations will not be as thorough as he would expect so , despite being told to leave it to his former colleagues Stilwell begins to investigate the murder.
Secrets and lies on Catalina Island are soon revealed with Stilwell seeking the truth whilst keeping his former colleagues in the dark and risking his job.
A fine murder mystery from Michael Connelly , well worth a read !
