Sympathy for the Devil: How Worldly Compassion Is Infecting the Church

In this eye-opening video, Pastor Brandon Holthaus exposes the growing trend of worldly compassion infiltrating today’s Church—an emotionalism that prioritizes empathy without biblical truth. This kind of distorted thinking causes people to empathize and sympathize with the wrong causes, the wrong groups, and the wrong people. The Bible calls us to show compassion—but always as guided by truth. Scripture commands us to resist the proud and give grace to the humble (James 4:6), yet today’s Church is giving grace to the proud and the unrepentant. Grace, Mercy, Empathy, Sympathy and Compassion must have the guardrails of truth. Without those boundaries, what you’re left with is sympathy for the devil. Using N.T. Wright as a prime example, we confront a disturbing shift happening across pulpits worldwide. Once seen as a leading theologian, Wright has now compromised on foundational doctrines:

Justifying abortion in cases of rape, incest, or deformity for compassion for the mother.

Suggesting belief in the resurrection is not essential to being a Christian for apostates.

Refusing to call transgender individuals to repentance to make them feel accepted.

These aren’t just theological missteps—they are signs of full-blown apostasy. This video explores how the Church is embracing distorted compassion:

Affirming sin under the banner of “love”

Embracing Critical Race Theory and Woke ideology with the morality of “worldly compassion”

Showing empathy for anti-Israel terrorists like Hamas

Turning a blind eye to the rise of Islamic ideology and radical feminism

Rejecting moral clarity for cultural acceptance

When the Church abandons truth for unbiblical empathy, it doesn’t reflect Christ—it reflects sympathy for the devil.
