How Ra Saved the World | Mythology Stories
In the dawn of time, Ra, the mighty sun god, reigned supreme. But as he aged, humanity, his own creation, began to disrespect him. Ra, incensed, declared, "My Eye shall punish them!" From his brow burst Sekhmet, a terrifying lioness goddess, blazing with the sun's destructive fury.
Sekhmet descended, a whirlwind of claws and fangs. She tore through humanity, her thirst for vengeance insatiable. The land turned crimson with blood, as she slaughtered not just the rebellious, but all in her path. She reveled in the carnage, growing stronger with each life she took.
But Ra watched, his initial rage turning to deep regret. He saw his world emptying, becoming a desolate wasteland. "This has gone too far," he despaired to the other gods. "We must stop her before all is lost!"
But how do you halt the unstoppable?
Then, Ra conceived a brilliant, peculiar plan. He commanded his priests to gather vast amounts of red ochre and barley. They brewed seven thousand jars of beer, staining it the exact color of blood with the ochre. Under the cloak of night, this enormous, potent brew was poured across the devastated lands, creating a vast, shimmering crimson lake.
The next morning, Sekhmet awoke, eager for more destruction. She looked out, her eyes falling upon the blood-red expanse. "Ah!" she roared, her heart pulsing with savage glee. "A field of blood, sent by Ra to sate my hunger!"
She knelt and drank, gulping down the red liquid. She drank for hours, her powerful body absorbing the magical brew. She drank until the very last drop, her insatiable thirst finally quenched.
Then, a strange sensation stole over the fearsome goddess. Her head swam, her limbs grew heavy. Her fiery eyes blinked slowly, then closed. With a soft, rumbling snore, the terrifying Sekhmet collapsed onto the earth, utterly, hilariously, and completely drunk.
She slept for three days and three nights. When she finally awoke, the bloodlust had vanished. The fury was replaced by a gentle warmth. She was no longer the destructive Sekhmet, but Hathor, goddess of love and joy.
And so, with a clever trick and a colossal amount of magical, blood-red beer, Ra saved the last remnants of humanity from his own wrath, transforming a terrifying goddess into a benevolent one. Humanity was spared, thanks to a divine hangover.
