"Can't be kicked around any longer": Doug Ford suggests slapping US with 25% retaliatory tariffs
On Tuesday, Ontario Premier Doug Ford expressed his "disappointment" and "concern" regarding U.S. President Donald Trump's proposal to impose an additional 25 per cent tariff on steel and aluminum.
Ford recalled a prior agreement stating, "We agreed when I went down there, they pull off 25 per cent additional tariffs and we take off the surcharge that we put on electricity. And that promise was broken."
He suggested a retaliatory response, stating, "If they keep on the 25 per cent tariffs on steel, my recommendation is to slap them with a 25 per cent because we can't be kicked around any longer."
Ford emphasized the need for a more positive dialogue, asserting, "The president has to tone down too," and called for reducing tensions by stating, "We need to bring the temperature down."
