Illinois Passes New Tax Adding $1.50 To All Home Deliveries

Illinois Democrats worked to pass a “climate impact fee” that would add a $1.50 Tax to anything delivered to your home - including from Amazon -to help pay for a $771 million shortfall

Governor J.B. Pritzker has racked up a massive fiscal shortfall for the Chicago-Area Regional Transportation Authority so the democrats’ plan to pay for it with a 'climate impact fee' that would apply to all retail deliveries.
The fee applies to all orders, except prescription and non-prescription drugs, as well as groceries - meaning services like Amazon or DoorDash would be taxed, but not pharmacy deliveries or grocery store orders.

The bill passed in the Illinois senate and has yet to be taken up by the House.

Illinois has over 8,000 taxing authorities

The democrat run state also has one of the highest property tax rates in the nation At 2.32% with the national average being 0.86%.

The median annual tax bill is $5,055, which double the national median of $2,457

A 2025 Attom report notes that six of the top 20 U.S. cities with the highest property tax rates are in Illinois.

In addition, the average combined state and local sales tax rate 24% higher than the national average at 8.86%

And…. Illinois has the second highest gas tax at 66.5 cents, only behind California
The national average is around 31 cents per gallon
