Sunday railfanning across the Long Island Railroad! Featuring the Cannonball!

Recorded June 2025. The Long Island Railroad is the place to be between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend! Extra trains run on the Long Island Railroad during this time (Mostly the Montauk Branch) so I decided to venture out and have some railfanning fun! This year, the Long Island Railroad brought in THREE new direct trains from Montauk to New York's Pennsylvania Station. In the past, only one direct from Montauk to Penn Station operated on Sunday evenings. So there are two brand new train rotations this year! I had to go check out at least one of them! The one I caught ended up utilizing the equipment of the Cannonball Express which is a train I always try to get every year these days. Even though the Cannonball is techincially the Friday only direct from Penn Station to Montauk, I decided that I am going to count this catch as seeing my first catch of the 2025 railfanning season since this train utilized the Cannonball equipment and operated the same route only in reverse direction. Still, what a nice surprise this was! I also caught plenty of Montauk Branch trains on both central Long Island and the south shore! The trains went by on the Babylon Branch at 80 MPH which was fun to see! I finally made it back to a sole Babylon Branch Station for the first time in over three years. Lot's of action to see here that you do not want to miss! Enjoy!
