The move comes in the wake of a recent frontier clash last week that resulted in the death of a Cambodian soldier. Cambodia's military reported that their forces were attacked first in the latest border incident, while the Thai side stated their soldiers were responding to gunshots. A day after the clash, the Cambodian Foreign Ministry issued a strong letter to the Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh, demanding an immediate and thorough investigation into what they described as an "unprovoked attack" and a "violation of Cambodian sovereignty."
