1944: Maureen Flavin (later Sweeney) records weather conditions at Blacksod Lighthouse, County Mayo. Her observations indicate an approaching storm, leading to the 24-hour postponement of the Allied D-Day landings from June 5 to June 6. 2023: In what will turn out to be the hottest June on record, Shannon records a top temperature of 24c. The highest temperature of the month (28.8°C) will be logged at Oak Park in County Carlow on June 13th.
