Pages of the Past

I found a letter in a drawer
Written back in ’94
Your words still warm, your ink still true
Like time stood still to bring me you

And though the world keeps spinning fast
I hold on to the things that last

These are the pages of the past
Stories written deep and fast
Laughter folded into time
Footsteps frozen in my mind
You may be gone, but you still stay
In little things I find each day
Love doesn’t fade, it holds on fast
In all these pages of the past

A photograph fell from the shelf
You laughing like your younger self
And just for once, the room felt light
Like you walked in to say goodnight

I chase your voice inside the breeze
A memory that never leaves

These are the pages of the past
Moments that were made to last
Echoes woven in the seams
Of quiet days and distant dreams
You may be gone, but still you shine
In corners of this heart of mine
Forever there, like shadows cast
Across these pages of the past

Time can turn the brightest shade
But love like this will never fade
You’re written in my soul so clear
Every word still brings you near

These are the pages of the past
A love too strong, too true to crash
You're inked in all I’ll ever be
In every breath, in every key
So when the years go rushing by
I’ll read your name beneath the sky
And find you there, in lines that last
My heart still bound to pages of the past
