Historical context of giving - June 1st 2025

This lesson covers the history of giving tithes and offerings going back to the time of Abraham, Jacob and the Levites. We discussed the claim of the Israelite firstborns by God in the Exodus, which gave rise to the tribe of Levites paying God with their service as a ransom for all the Israelite firstborns. The tradition and command to give regularly to support the system of worship began with the Israelites, and continued into the ministry of Jesus and his disciples. We are obligated to give to the kingdom of God because God owns us.
