The man we think of as the quintessential Dracula is none other than Bela Lugosi.
After finding some success in acting in Europe prior to World War II, including Weimar Germany, Lugosi found his way to America as a merchant seaman, and it wasn't long thereafter that he moved to New York City.
In 1927, he starred as the titular character of Dracula on Broadway which ultimately moved across the US to Hollywood. Tod Browning found Lugosi irreplaceable, and the man became Dracula for the world.
Though he had some success beyond horror films, Lugosi's life ended tragically. His legacy remains writ large across the silver screen.
