The death toll from devastating floods in Nigeria has now reportedly risen to at least 200, with 500 more still missing. The city of Mokwa, around 380 kilometres from Abuja, suffered severe damage as homes, roads, and entire communities were swept away. Rescue operations have now been called off due to little hope of finding survivors, with officials beginning to exhume bodies to prevent disease outbreaks. On May 30th, President Bola Tinubu ordered an emergency response to aid victims and speed recovery.
