All through the 1950s to the 2000s, my beloved Mother watched As the World Turns and The Guiding Light Soap Operas. As I became a teenager and later into my 20s, I too found myself addicted to The Guiding Light. One of the most amazing characters I had ever seen was Roger Thorpe. This video is for Roger Thorpe Lovers and Haters: "Roger Thorpe: The Scandal Years" on "Guiding Light" refers to the years of the character's tumultuous storylines, primarily involving his abusive behavior and the relationships with Holly and Blake. The late Michael Zaslow portrayed Roger Thorpe in the show, and the term "Scandal Years" likely refers to the period when his character's actions, including slapping, rape, and other acts of violence, were prominent on the show. The character's tumultuous storylines involved him slapping Holly Norris after she slapped him, rapes Holly, and also slaps his daughter, Blake. These events, along with other acts of violence towards other characters, contributed to the character's negative portrayal.
