🦅🔆 Nekhbet and Ra 🔆 🦅

Upon the dunes where time runs dry,

Beneath the weight of endless sky,

A vulture soared with wings outspread,

Where gods and mortals both have bled.

She circled high on desert breath,

A watcher at the gates of death,

Yet not of shadow, fear, or blight,

Her feathers caught eternal light.

O Ra, the sun god, crowned in flame,

Each dawn he rose, the world to name.

His golden barque cut through the blue,

And from his eye all life withdrew.

But none flew nearer, none so bold,

As she who bore the crown of old.

Nekhbet, vulture queen of sky,

With silent wings, she wandered high.

"Why follow me?" the great god said,

As fire curled around his head.

"Why seek the light that burns the air,

When gods alone may wander there?"

She answered not in mortal tongue,

But with a cry both fierce and young,
A sound of ages, dry and deep,

That wakes the stones from desert sleep.

"For I am more than flesh or bone,
"
Her shadow sang in sunlit tone,

"I guard the tomb, I shield the throne,

And know the dust where kings have flown."

Ra smiled wide, his fire aglow,

And let her fly where few could go.

She danced beside him through the blaze,

A streak of dusk in solar haze.

Together through the sky they rode,

O'er temples cracked and rivers old.

One bore the sun, fierce and divine,

One bore the wings of death and time.

And still she soars, where few dare climb,

A guardian of flame and sign,
The vulture, wise, with watchful eye,

Who flies with Ra across the sky.
