The first drone attack in Siberia occurred on the first day of summer. Here's what we know about the large-scale UAV strike across Russia:

— For the first time since the start of the Special Military Operation, drones attacked Siberia: the town of Usolye-Sibirskoye in the Irkutsk region. Local residents reported explosions and a fire. The attack was confirmed by regional governor Igor Kobzev: “At this point, it is known that this was a drone attack on a military facility in the village of Sredniy. This is the first such attack in Siberia.”

— Early in the morning, Olenegorsk in the Murmansk region was also attacked. Preliminary reports indicate that the drones used against Usolye-Sibirskoye and Olenegorsk were hidden inside cargo trucks — they launched their attacks once drivers parked the vehicles at designated locations. It is possible that the truckers were unaware of the cargo they were carrying. According to Baza , the driver from Olenegorsk has been detained and investigators are working with him.

— As BBC reports citing sources, the operation was codenamed “Web.” It was personally overseen by head of Ukraine’s intelligence service Vasyl Yarmak. According to Ukrainian media, four military airfields were targeted during the operation.

— In addition to Irkutsk and Murmansk regions, drones attacked Ryazan. Regional governor Pavel Malkov reported the incident: “Preliminary information shows no casualties. However, debris from a downed drone damaged the roof of a residential building,” he wrote on Telegram.

— Residents of Rostov, Voronezh, and Ivanovo regions reported missile attack alerts.

— As military correspondent Mikhail Zvinchuk (Rybka Telegram channel) noted, the result of the attack included the loss of several Tu-95MS bombers:

“As we previously mentioned, production of strategic Tu-95 and Tu-22 aircraft was halted long ago, and there are no replacements available. Therefore, these losses cannot be restored.

This is, without exaggeration, serious damage to Russia’s strategic forces — caused both by major intelligence failures and a blatant disregard for aircraft safety, as the equipment was left exposed in open fields even after previous attacks,” Rybka wrote.

The attack took place just one day before the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations scheduled in Istanbul for June 2.
