H. Hoehn: I have just finished reviewing "Issues Clarified," specifically Appendix DE&F and the section titled Elijah on Mount Carmel (pages 141–192). One cannot help but question why some seem determined to follow even at the cost of spiritual integrity. It is truly revealing to observe the lengths to which certain individuals will go in order to mislead God’s people, making it all the more appropriate to invoke the imagery of Elijah on Mount Carmel in this context.
It is striking that they attribute quotations to Ellen G. White from a book she neither saw nor wrote—Prophets and Kings—which was compiled and published in 1917, two years after her death in 1915. Among the most significant omissions is the account of Elijah finding faith and hope not within Israel, but with a Gentile widow in the land of Zarephath. This example underscores that genuine faith may be found outside the visible church structure. Will God’s faithful likewise find refuge away from organized churches and society during the coming time of trouble.
Apparently, the Standish-led consortium was uncomfortable with this possibility. As such, they excluded these portions from the compilation of Prophets and Kings (particularly from pages 129 to 132). Yet, the prophetic truth remains: We will study that, the light of truth will shine, and all who are honest in heart will come out of the fallen churches and take their stand with the faithful remnant—regardless of denominational boundaries.
