So welcome to album review Tuesdays here on the channel, and tonight we are going very deep beneath the earth once again with a very obscure one man black metal project out of finland. With Rotten Moon-In The Vale Of Astral Graves. This was released in 2020 on Esfinge De La Calavera Records on Cassette and was limited to 50 copies
.
Now I ordered mine through NWN productions so they must have procured some from the label itself. Very little is known about this mysterious project as the man himself is completely anonymous and I cannot find any information about him or the project anywhere. In The Vale Of Astral grave is a 27 minute long journey into the dust and decay of the cosmos and it’s the same 5 tracks on both the A and B side of the cassette.
What I do know is upon hearing it on the NWN website? I had to fucking order it!

Alright so lets get into the review shall we?
So the album opens up with a really ancient sounding cold dark intro called “Gates Clothed In Mould” and this is 1:31 seconds of some very unsettling dark ambience with the dissonance of the decaying astral bodies and dusk of the cosmos descending in upon themselves and it sets the tone for this album very well, This is a very strong intro indeed!

Next up is Veils Of Life,Depart and this one opens up the hypnotizing gaze of the lifeless cosmos and mysteries of the fucking nebula as it pulls you into its hopeless dark void of silence and despair complete with bone chilling raw riffing and crystalline keyboard work that compliments the primal howl of the vocals that sound like something straight from a fucking black hole echoing in the distance and the timelessness of this crashing chaotic decaying astral body of work engulfs every fucking sense you have and lulls you into its raw hypnotic trance of ugliness and beauty simultaneously. Riffs are ice cold and static to the point of sounding like an Alien transmission of static and coldness emitting from a lost radio frequency. But that’s the entire fucking point. Killer godamned track here.

Next up is Worms In Celestial Bodies and the hopeless void of desolation and cosmic abandonment continues its relentless sense of hopelessness and isolation of chaos and destruction of the nebulas as you’re entire body is pulled into its cacophonic raw primal timeless riffing and simplistic almost ritualistic drum work which never borders on technical or even “Varied” This celestial keyboards and raw howls of deep hate and despair make this combination of ugliness and serenity work so well together to give you a strong sense of unease and cosmic fascination and this 10 min track is easily one of the best on the album.

This is an amazing track full of coldness, rawness and primitive soundscapes of a timeless nature that harken back to pre-civilization or even a human presence, and that’s one of the most charming things about this obscure black metal project… Truly captivating work here guys!
