New Orleans DA pulls out of jailbreak investigation amid conflict of interest allegation

Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams has recused himself from an investigation led by Louisiana’s Attorney General into a jailbreak in New Orleans where 10 inmates escaped on May 16.

Williams faced accusations of a conflict of interest from Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson, who alleged his involvement was driven by personal and political motives.

Williams denied the claims, citing the case’s multi-jurisdictional scope, the Associated Press has reported.

Hutson has faced criticism for delays in reporting the escape and jail management issues, while a state-led investigation aims to provide accountability and prevent future escapes.
