A massive chunk of the Birch glacier broke off Swiss village

A massive chunk of the Birch glacier broke off and crashed down into the valley, burying 90% of a Swiss village.

This is an incredibly tragic event.

The town’s mayor expressed the townspeople’s resilience, stating, “We have lost our village, but not our heart. We will support each other and console each other.”

The village residents were evacuated from their homes on May 19 after local geologists warned of the glacier’s instability.

It is highly unlikely that they will ever be able to return to their homes.

According to the BBC, one person is reported missing in the incident.
