American Surgeon exposes UnitedHealthcare is denying elderly patients surgeries and then dragging out their appeals long enough so that they age out of their plan AND TRANSITION TO MEDICARE

Dr Elizabeth Potter “I sat down this morning outside the operating room, looking at my scans, getting ready for a deep flap, and an orthopedic surgeon came up and sat next to me and said, you're not going to believe what United did.

He said he had a patient who really needed a hip replacement and she'd been waiting six months to see him. He saw her, and she's a good candidate. We need to do the surgery, submit it to United. And they denied the case. And they denied it, saying that when he submitted his documentation that he didn't include the radiographic findings in the actual body of the note. But he sent everything like he sent all the studies. It was all super clear that she needed it.

But based on this technicality, they said, nah, we're not going to approve it. And then they said, we need to go through the whole appeal process and do it again. So he's like, yeah, so I'm going to do this again. And it's going to take a couple months.

And wouldn't you know that just a couple months from now, she's going to age out of their plan and be on Medicare.

It makes you wonder, doesn't it?”
