Dekhti Aankhooon aur sountay kaanoon ko Asslamoalaikum, sisters, brothers friends and elders, in informative series videos of Islamic ascolars, sufisaints, cultural heritages, islamic philosophys, islamic mysticisms and historical figures. today we are describing biography of Abu Anees Muhammad Barkat Ali Ludhianvi and the history of his shrine.
Abu Anees Muhammad Barkat Ali Ludhianvi, born on 27 April 1911 in Ludhiana, India, was a prominent Islamic scholar, Sufi saint, and spiritual reformer who devoted his entire life to the service of Islam and the betterment of humanity. He was a man of exceptional piety, intellect, and spiritual depth, whose influence transcended borders. Belonging to a lineage of spiritual masters, Barkat Ali Ludhianvi was affiliated with several major Sufi orders. He was not only a respected figure in the Qadiriyya order but also held spiritual links with the Chishti, Naqshbandi, and a total of 14 different spiritual orders. This rare and profound spiritual diversity made him a unique personality in the modern Sufi tradition.
Barkat Ali received a traditional Islamic education from a young age. His spiritual journey was deeply rooted in Islamic teachings and the principles of Tasawwuf (Sufism), and he spent years under the guidance of respected scholars and Sufi mentors. As a young man, he joined the British Indian Army and served for several years, but eventually, he left his military career in pursuit of a higher spiritual calling. After leaving the army, he dedicated his life completely to the service of Allah, renouncing worldly gains and immersing himself in preaching, spiritual guidance, and public welfare.
After migrating to Pakistan following the partition of India in 1947, Barkat Ali settled near Faisalabad in Punjab. There, he established Dar-ul-Ehsan, a non-political, non-profit religious and spiritual organization aimed at reforming individual character and promoting true Islamic values. Dar-ul-Ehsan quickly gained prominence across the country and became a hub of spiritual training, religious education, and social welfare. Barkat Ali’s teachings emphasized simplicity, humility, discipline, remembrance of Allah (Zikr), love for the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and service to humanity. He believed that real success lay not in material achievements, but in spiritual purification and closeness to God.
One of his remarkable contributions to Islamic society was the establishment of the first **Quran Mahal** in Pakistan, a unique center built to honor the Holy Quran. This Quran Mahal became a symbol of his deep reverence for the Word of God and his desire to promote the Quranic message among the masses in an accessible and spiritual environment. The Quran Mahal was not just a building, but a center of light, reflection, and spiritual enlightenment for those seeking the path of righteousness.
Throughout his life, Barkat Ali attracted a vast following from across Pakistan and beyond. Politicians, government officials, intellectuals, students, and common people would regularly visit Dar-ul-Ehsan to benefit from his wisdom, guidance, and prayers. Despite his growing fame, he remained humble and detached from worldly recognition. His gatherings were filled with spiritual energy, and he had a remarkable ability to inspire hearts and awaken faith in even the most troubled souls.
Abu Anees Muhammad Barkat Ali Ludhianvi passed away on 26 January 1997, leaving behind a lasting legacy of spiritual enlightenment and public service. He was buried near Dar-ul-Ehsan, his beloved center, located about 16 kilometers from Faisalabad, near the town of Dasuha on the Faisalabad–Samundri Road. His shrine stands as a beacon of light and peace, visited by countless devotees and admirers each year. The tomb is simple yet spiritually powerful, reflecting the life of the man who rests within it.
The shrine was built by his devoted followers and the caretakers of Dar-ul-Ehsan, who sought to honor his memory and continue his mission. It is not only a site of pilgrimage but also a center of community service. In keeping with Barkat Ali’s lifelong commitment to helping humanity, eye camps are organized at Dar-ul-Ehsan twice a year—in March and October. These camps offer free eye treatments to thousands of underprivileged people, continuing his mission of serving the needy and suffering.
Abu Anees Muhammad Barkat Ali Ludhianvi remains an enduring figure in the spiritual and religious life of Pakistan. His teachings, infused with love, humility, and divine wisdom, continue to touch the hearts of people around the world. His life is a shining example of how deep faith, unwavering dedication, and service to others can lead to both personal spiritual elevation and widespread societal benefit. His shrine remains a sacred site of reflection, prayer, and spiritual connection for those seeking closeness to God and inspiration from one of the most revered Sufi saints of the modern era.
With this, we seek your permission until tomorrow, tomorrow we will describe the biography of Shahab al-Din Abu Hafs Umar al-Suhrawardi and the history of his Shrine.
