A True Professional
This pastel drawing ‘Model – 17-05-25 – 2’ is the second of a memorable afternoon with model Donika. A true professional! After the pause we had her sit straight up in a lovely pose. Great how she can hold it for such a long time. From my point of view there were some interesting triangular forms construed by her arms and right leg. Even the lighting turned out to be just fine. That’s always a guess because we can’t direct lamps other than what’s in the ceiling. Otherwise there’s always a victim-artist on the opposite side of the light who is blinded. However, the lamps from the ceiling did the job alright. There was a perfect division of light and dark parts. Consequently, I captured her proportions soon enough.
Elaborating in My Studio
Only to find myself in a bit of a jam. Preliminary results were a bit boring at the conclusion of this live drawing event. Just like during the first session I didn’t finish the pastel to my satisfaction. Well, it turned out I faced some difficulties calculating the right proportions. Then again, as was the case with the first one, I saw the potential to do more. Strange how these sessions go. The more you practise the more one becomes inclined to finetune things once you get the hang of it. Hence, the tendency to tinker with the drawing in my own studio. Not much of a live drawing session result at all, you’d say. I don’t mind really. In fact, it’s based on one and that is satisfying enough for me.
Persingen
Unlike the first pastel drawing I had it in my to do some more. The negative space in the upper right corner was a bit too much for me. Lately I have visited Beek-Ubbergen and Berg en Dal quite a few times again. Therefor I thought it would be jolly good fun to do a sort of a landscape in the back. You can see a view on the church of Persingen as can be seen from The Oude Holleweg near Hotel Val Monte. Last but not least, a glass of wine on the windowsill. A toast to a beautiful woman and intriguing personality.
