Be Careful What You Wish For: A Prophetic Word on the Kingdom and the Storm Ahead
I thank you that there is so much more ahead for us who trust you and choose you. But today, I want to share a message that isn’t for the whole earth, nor even for every congregation claiming to be the body of Christ. This is a message that weighs heavily on my spirit—a prophetic warning that has been building inside me: Be careful what you wish for.
I’m not going to yell or rant today. I want you to listen carefully to every word I say because what I’m about to share comes from a deep place within me, guided by the Spirit. The days ahead will be some of the greatest and some of the hardest we’ve ever known. The Lord has revealed to me that when we ask for something, He honors that request. But with that comes consequences. The story of King Saul in the book of Samuel illustrates this perfectly.
The People’s Demand for a King: Rejecting God’s Rule
Let me take you back to the story in 1 Samuel. The people of Israel came to Samuel and said, “We want a king like the other nations.” They rejected the judges and the direct rule of the Lord. Samuel was hurt and offended, but God said, “They’re not rejecting you; they’re rejecting Me.” And so God told Samuel to give them what they wanted—but first, to warn them of the consequences.
This is where the phrase “be careful what you wish for” comes in. The people wanted a king, but God knew what that would entail. He instructed Samuel to tell them exactly what it would look like to live under a king’s reign:
Your sons will be drafted for the king’s armies and forced to serve.
Your daughters will be taken to serve in the palace, cooking, baking, and making perfumes for the king.
Your fields, vineyards, and best resources will be taken by the king’s officials.
A tenth of your grain, wine, and livestock will be taken for the king’s use.
You will become slaves to the king, serving his interests.
God was clear: “You want a king? You can have one, but this is the cost.” And the people insisted anyway. They wanted to fit in with the other nations, despite all the miracles and deliverances they had witnessed firsthand. They chose to reject God’s direct rule for an earthly king. This is a powerful lesson for us today.
God Is Not in Control—We Are
Many say “God is in control,” but the Lord revealed to me that this is not entirely true. God gave dominion over the earth to us—His people. He honors what we ask for, whether it’s good or bad. When the people of Israel asked for a king, God said, “Fine, I’ll give them what they want.” But He also warned them of the consequences. This isn’t about God losing control; it’s about God respecting our choices.
Think about the recent elections and political shifts. After the election of Trump, the Lord told me the real battle was just beginning. The victory was simply the right to fight. Similarly, after the last election in Canada, God showed me that the people’s votes had consequences — more carbon taxes, more medically assisted suicides, more tyranny. “You voted for it; you get it,” He said.
God is sovereign, yes, but He has also handed us the responsibility and the reins. We are in control of what happens on this earth through the choices we make and the prayers we offer. God will intervene when it becomes necessary, but until then, He lets us live with the results of our decisions. This is a sobering truth.
Saul: A Pure Vessel Corrupted by Politics
Let’s return to Saul, the first king of Israel. When Samuel first met Saul, he was a pure vessel—obedient to his father, humble, unaware of the destiny awaiting him. Samuel anointed him with oil and proclaimed him ruler over Israel. God’s Spirit came powerfully upon Saul, and he began to prophesy alongside other prophets. At this point, Saul was a changed man, filled with the Spirit of God.
But things didn’t stay pure for long. Saul’s reign quickly became complicated by jealousy, bitterness, and political pressure. The very people who once praised him began to scorn and reject him. They questioned his ability to save them. This is the moment the political spirit entered Saul’s life, and it led to his downfall. He became obsessed with protecting his throne rather than serving God.
This is a warning to all of us: even the purest vessels can be corrupted if they lose their focus on God and become entangled in worldly power struggles. Saul’s story reminds us to stay vigilant and keep our eyes fixed on the Lord, no matter what challenges we face.
A Storm Is Coming: Prepare Your Heart and Mind
Alongside this prophetic word about kings and kingdoms, the Lord gave me a vision and a dream that I must share with you. It began with a great storm—a tornado like none other. In the dream, I was in a house watching the storm intensify on the TV. Outside, people were trapped in traffic jams, water rising, trees uprooted and crashing down. The chaos was overwhelming, and I was forced to flee to a hotel, a place of refuge. But even there, I faced opposition and rejection from security guards who didn’t understand the gravity of what had happened.
This dream is a metaphor for the days ahead. A storm unlike any other is coming to shake the foundations of the earth. There will be devastation, chaos, and fear. But the Lord promises that He will never leave nor forsake His own. He will be a comforter and a helper to those who cry out to Him. For those who are His children, He will make a way of escape and keep them safe.
However, many will not see or understand the signs of the times because “the God of this age has blinded their eyes and deafened their ears.” This is a call to wake up, to prepare our hearts, and to stand firm in faith. The shaking is coming, and it will be like nothing we’ve ever witnessed before.
Walking in Lockstep with God: Our Call to Radical Obedience
What must we do in these times? The answer is simple but challenging: Do what God asks. Saul was told to obey Samuel’s instructions without hesitation, to wait seven days for further guidance, and to trust that God was with him. We too must walk in lockstep with the Lord, neither getting ahead nor falling behind.
God is calling us to radical obedience. Speak up when the Spirit moves you. Pray for those in need. Stand against injustice. Do not be silent out of fear of what others might think. Every instruction from God is a Kairos moment—a divine opportunity to bring forth a miracle.
Faith without works is dead. It’s not enough to say we believe; we must act. If you love God, keep your eyes fixed on Him and be willing to do whatever He asks. He will be with you, and His hand will guide and protect you.
Reject Earthly Kings, Embrace the King of Kings
We live in a world obsessed with earthly rulers—politicians, monarchs, and leaders who promise peace but often bring conflict. The people of Israel wanted a king like everyone else, but God’s heart was for them to be a holy nation, set apart, ruled by Him directly.
Today, many celebrate puppet masters and earthly kings. But true sovereignty belongs to the Lord alone. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. Changing governments will not solve our problems because it only replaces one earthly king with another. What we need is the reign of God in our hearts and nations.
So I say to you, do not put your hope in any political party or leader—whether Democrat, Republican, Liberal, Conservative, or any other. Fix your eyes on Jesus, the only true King who can deliver and save. He brought Israel out of Egypt; He will bring us through whatever storms lie ahead.
The Great Shaking Is Coming: Stand Firm in Faith
The financial systems are on the brink. Governments will fall. Chaos will erupt as the foundations that people rely on crumble. This is not fear-mongering; this is a sober warning from God. But He promises protection and provision for those who keep their eyes on Him.
We must fortify our faith like never before. This is the great and terrible day of the Lord—simultaneously a time of judgment and a time of salvation. Prepare to be a beacon of peace amid the storm. Your calm and faith will be a testimony to those around you.
Remembering God’s Faithfulness: Setting Up an Ebenezer
In the midst of these heavy words, I want to encourage you to remember God’s faithfulness. In 1 Samuel 7, Samuel set up a stone called Ebenezer, meaning “stone of help,” to remind the people of God’s deliverance. I am setting up an Ebenezer in my home—a tangible reminder of the times God has saved me, protected my family, and brought me through impossible situations.
We all need to hold onto these memories of God’s goodness. When the storms come—and they will—we can look upon those stones and remember that God is with us. He will never leave us nor forsake us.
A Final Word: Choose Your Side
Today, I urge you to decide what side you are on. The shaking is coming, and the earth will be shaken like never before. Will you be part of the shaking, or will you stand firm in the unshakable kingdom of God?
Be careful what you wish for, but more importantly, start wishing for God’s reign, His righteousness, and His kingdom to come. Speak it into being, even if it feels unpopular. God is not in control of the earth in the way many think; He has given us dominion. What we ask for, we will receive.
But there is still time to turn our hearts fully to the Lord. Fix your eyes on Him, obey His voice, and walk in faith. He will keep you safe in the storm and use you as a vessel of His glory to bring in the great harvest.
Remember, the King of kings is coming, but He will only come for a remnant who are looking for Him and not for earthly kings. Keep your eyes on Jesus. He is our hope, our refuge, and our salvation.
