Why is it important not to take communion unworthily - Leviticus Short

In Leviticus 10 we see Aaron, the high priest abstain from doing a specific role as outlined in God's Law related to a sacrificial offering. When confronted about it by Moses, Aaron defends himself by saying that God would not have been pleased had he taken it.

Our motivation in why we do things matters to the Lord, in most cases, more so then the act itself. Today, we practice the sacrament of communion, and we see in 1 Corinthians 11.27-32 that we are called to do so with the proper reverence and heart and not to take it "unworthily."
