The simplest reading of the Bible is often the best - Leviticus Short

The Bible was written for every day people to read. It was inspired by the Holy Spirit and penned by normal people for everyday people, blue-collar and doctors alike. Based on this fact, the simplest reading of the text is often the best way of interpreting the text. If there are two theories of the meaning of a text, and one is very simple and straight forward while the other you have to be a mathematician and know some elaborate coding system to understand it, the first (simpler) reading is likely the best one.

This is known as the rule of simplicity or the law of simplest reading.
