Do you agree with Mike Johnson? Congress moves to protect Medicaid for those who truly need it

Amid a nationwide debate on budget cuts and the future of public healthcare, House Speaker Mike Johnson has made one thing very clear: there are no essential cuts to Medicaid. Instead, what’s happening is a necessary effort to clean up the abuse that has drained resources from a program meant for the most vulnerable Americans.

In a recent interview with Jake Tapper, Johnson directly addressed the misinformation spread by left-leaning media and offered hard facts: over 1.4 million illegal immigrants are enrolled in Medicaid, a program never meant to cover those who entered the country unlawfully. “Medicaid is not intended for non-U.S. citizens,” Johnson said. It’s for pregnant women, young single mothers, people with disabilities, the elderly — those who genuinely need help.

The progressive narrative — accusing conservatives of being “cruel” for supposedly cutting healthcare — collapses under scrutiny. Johnson explained plainly that this isn’t about cutting access; it’s about eliminating fraud, waste, and systemic abuse that has turned Medicaid into a political tool for the left.

One of the most striking examples he offered: 4.8 million able-bodied young men are currently on Medicaid despite not working. “They are choosing not to work, even though they can. That’s called fraud,” Johnson declared. While Democrats cheer on dependency as public policy, Republicans are working to rescue the sustainability of social programs for those who truly need them.

The left clings to the status quo because they benefit politically from a system bloated with government dependents. But Republicans, led by Johnson, are willing to take the political risk of telling the truth and acting responsibly. What’s happening here isn’t a budget cut — it’s a rescue operation to save Medicaid from impending collapse.

By rooting out fraud and false eligibility, not only are resources preserved, but care is ensured for those in genuine need. Why should illegal immigrants and healthy, unemployed adults drain the same funds meant for a working single mother or a disabled veteran?

This is the real moral fight of our time: Do we want a welfare system that rewards laziness and lawlessness — or one that supports those who follow the law and need real help?

Democrats have turned Medicaid into a tool of ideological dependence. Mike Johnson and the Republican-led Congress are working to restore it as a lifeline for the truly needy.
