Unseen War

The Unseen War On Memorial Day, we stand to honor the brave, Whose lives on foreign soil, our freedoms did save. But a new battlefield bleeds, far closer to home, Where unseen enemies silently roam. The suicide's silent scream, the health problems that cling, More veterans lost than the bullets could bring. Fort Hood's tragic echo, a dark, domestic scar, The foe within our gates, closer than a distant war. For decades, we’ve fought, with honor and might, But a different war rages, in shadows of night. Where processed foods infiltrate, a Trojan horse's guise, Profits their banner, veiled behind innocent eyes. And pharmaceutical giants, in hospitals reside, Their influence woven, where solace should abide. These are not allies, but enemies unseen, Waging their battles, a corrupt, profit-driven machine. With tactics of deceit, and threats in the dark, Against our own government, leaving their cynical mark. More lives they have claimed, and more wealth they have spun, Than any great conflict, beneath the hot sun. Compare the combat deaths, to the silent, slow decay, The suicides, the sickness, that steals life away. This domestic war's vastness, a truth hard to face, Far deeper, more cunning, in time and in space. In combat, an enemy, we could seek out and find, But this foe is everywhere, a prison of the mind. So let us remember, on this hallowed day, Not just the fallen, who died far away. But those lost to this war, in their own silent fight, Casualties of profit, eclipsed by the fading light. Their sacrifice too, demands our deep care, For the unseen war's wounds, that we all must now bear.
