The blessing for obedience and seeking God with all his heart could have brought prosperity and an enduring kingdom despite setbacks. Though prophecy was fulfilled through his foolish leadership, it is possible that the judgment could have been delayed as it was during Solomon's life. But instead, he set in motion not only a kingdom divided, but a kingdom fallen - one that was headed for exile due to blatant defiance of God, despite seeing and experiencing the results of such rebellion firsthand by his fathers example.
